Model United Nations?
Model United Nations, otherwise referred to as Model UN or MUN, is an outlet of leadership and diplomacy. It utilizes the United Nations, or UN, and various other international organizations as a platform through which to develop, enhance, and improve practical skills and tools.
In Model UN members, often referred to as delegates, participate in simulations of international organizations by stepping into the role of ambassadors from member states and representing their nation on key and relevant issues in discussions and debates on the organization and committee’s agenda. The delegates are tasked with conducting research, preparing and presenting speeches, participating in debates and negotiations, dealing with and resolving conflicts, implementing astute innovative plans and strategies to further their nation’s interests, as well as preparing, adapting and analyzing official and legal documents and resolutions.
The delegates are presented with an outlet to participate and navigating the realm of diplomacy. They are empowered to tackle and discuss, as well as creatively and innovatively adapt solutions to, the various pertinent and complex issues plaguing the world and nations today. This is all done whilst fostering and advancing international cooperation and conflict resolution, in a very real, elite and challenging platform.
Advanced delegates also take part in more exclusive and challenging committees such as high level forums, specialized committees, and even the fast-paced, dynamic and stimulating, as well as challenging, “Crisis” simulations. These committees provide the delegates the platform to simulate the Model UN process as countries, political figures, or even organizations in a much more intense, intricate and detail-demanding scenarios as they adapt and progress at a higher level and faster paced environment. These committees help advanced delegates to really hone the tools and skills they acquire from Model UN to an expert level, priming them to perfection for their bright futures as leaders and decision-makers.
Ultimately, Model UN is a global environment and family which provides you the platform(s) to develop into your full potential, on an international level, while building a network of friends and colleagues in a positive and empowering social outlet.
